Building Technician

Hastings District Council is seeking applications for a permanent full-time Building Technician to join their team in the Planning and Regulatory Group.

This role involves processing Land Information Memorandums and minor building consent applications. This position will suit someone who has previous experience in a regulatory role, who is confident, friendly, well organized, and be able to fit easily in to an established and productive team.

As the Building Technician your tasks will include:

  • Completing a range of building-related application processes, including checking applications for completeness

  • Processing Land Information Memorandum (LIM) applications

  • Processing minor building consent applications

The preferred applicant will have:

  • An appropriate  tertiary qualification

  • Previous local government experience in a regulatory context, including LIM and building consents

  • Well-developed written and oral communication

  • Advanced computer skills

  • Previous experience reading and interpreting building plans

The successful candidate will receive on the job training. You will be required to develop a sound technical competency so that you can process minor building work applications.

You may be required to commit to a programme of study to demonstrate you are working towards an appropriate technical qualification. This is essential so that the Council can meet the requirements of the Building (Accreditation of Building Consent Authorities) Regulations 2006. 

A job offer associated with this position may carry a requirement to be bonded with Hastings District Council for at least three years.
