Security Manager

We are looking for a Security Manager to manage Council’s organisation-wide security requirements.  With over 26 locations across the district, this role is responsible for the provision and management of organisational security systems, policies and processes as well as the management of Kaitiaki staff.

This role reports to the Group Manager: Community Facilities & Programmes. This Group includes Libraries, Commercial Centres, Sports Centre, Aquatics Hastings, Hastings District Cemeteries & Crematorium, Social & Youth Development, Hawke’s Bay Opera House, Hastings City Art Gallery and Senior Housing.

We are looking for candidates with proven experience within the security industry, and sound working knowledge of security best practice and relevant legislation This role will be integral to identifying critical risk areas, advising on Council’s control measures and working collaboratively with key Council stakeholders, community and external agencies.

Even tempered and cooperative nature, ability to work under pressure whilst taking charge of incidents, excellent interpersonal skills oral and written are just some of the personal attributes you will have.

To be successful the candidate will have:

  • National Certificate in Security level 3 or 4 or the equivalent of a recognised security qualification.

  • A current, clean NZ driver’s licence.

  • Security professional with a proven management experience within the security industry, police or related services (e.g. military, Customs).

  • A sound working knowledge of security best practice and legislation.

  • Experience with electronic Security systems e.g. CCTV, alarms/duress alarms.

  • Strong management and leadership skills together with excellent communication, influencing, negotiating and engagement skills.

  • Sound judgement and decision making skills, with a ‘hands on’, problem solving approach.

  • Experience of writing procedures, drafting reports, preparing business cases and compiling and adjusting duty rosters to meet shortfalls in staffing levels.

  • Experience in financial management (can manage a cost centre)

  • Experience in managing staff

  • Understanding of tikanga Māori and/or Te Reo Māori

  • Demonstrated ability to operate with a high degree of flexibility in an environment which can have periods of demanding workloads and time constraints
